The bench forms an important element of interior household furnishing in traditional Javanese homes.  The smooth hard surface of crafted solid teak provides a comfortable and cool spot to sit or lounge about.  The padded and upholstered furniture of colder climates had no place in tropical Java before the appearance of air conditioners.  Over hundreds of years the craftsmen of Java honed and refined the comfort, durability and practicality of their benches. The benches very tremendously in both design and style.  Some are proportioned much as our park benches for formal seating, while others have an exceptionally wide seat intended for casual lounging.  The styles also reflect these varying degrees of formality.
 
The Javanese benches we offer are hand-crafted from solid teak wood on Java.  No two are alike.  We show you a small sample of the variety available.  We happily accept orders for benches of specific dimensions, styles, motifs and finishes.
